Last night, Manchester United won their 20th English Premier League title and their 5th title in 7 seasons. Not only was this a record-extending 20th title, but United won it in style at Old Trafford in front of their home crowd. They will receive their title in their last home match against Swansea City on the 12th of May. Moreover, it was a 3-0 thrashing of Aston Villa, all three goals scored in the first half. The win was inevitable; together they played 34 matches, with Villa winning only 1 against United.
The sound that was coming out of the Theatre of Dreams was electrifying. We shut those noisy neighbours up. (PS. That’s how you win a title!)
United regained the title after losing it to Chelsea two seasons ago, and Manchester City last season. They became the first club to win the Premier League title with 4 games remaining since Arsenal in 2003/04. United also won the title with ±21 600 seconds remaining in the season, however, Manchester City won the title with ±1 second remaining. Although they have already won the title, they would like to reach Chelsea’s record 95 points at end of the season.
Overall, it was an incredible night. Sir Alex Ferguson has now won 901 Man United games & 38 trophies since becoming United Manager in 1986. Both Sir Alex Ferguson and Ryan Giggs have won the Premier League 13 times, while for others; it is their first league title. It was Wayne Rooney’s 400th Manchester United appearance. Robin van Persie was also crowned Barclays Man of the Match last night, for his STUPENDOUS hat-trick. He has one hell of a left foot. Shinji Kagawa has won the league title in each of the three seasons that he has played in Europe BVB & MUFC.
"Everything comes from the manager. He's an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable person and he deserves everything he gets."
Ryan Giggs
United’s number 20, van Persie inspired the 20th title. The Dutchman left Arsenal to win titles; he didn’t leave for the money.
"It's weird; I had to wait for so long for my first title. It's a great feeling."
Robin van Persie
Van Persie can also win the Golden Boot now that he scored a hat-trick and went 1 goal ahead of the others on the top scorer list:
Robin van Persie 24
Luis Suarez 23
Gareth Bale 18
Michu 17
Ba & Benteke 15
"To win it back is something special. We put on a show & did it in style. The youngsters have learned from last year."
Ryan Giggs
Ey Man City, 16 point gap ... What do you say to that? Last season, your win was by luck, nothing more! Now shut up!! You're making a noise!
My family decided to go to bed early. So I couldn't scream & shout out with joy. I also wanted to slide Di Canio style. But the last time I did that on a rug, it burned my knees. All I could do were these little inner chants.
