7-1 gets Germany to 2014 World Cup Final

Germany reached a record 8th World Cup final after a 8 goal thriller in Belo Horizonte. It was 5-0 at halftime and 7-1 at full time. Besides Müller and Schürrle, a German player whose full name begins with a 'K' managed to score against Brazil - Klose, Kroos and Khedira. When the German defence line was beaten, Neuer was able to keep a clean sheet.

Brazil were unbeaten in 42 home games and 1975 was the last time they lost a competitive game at home. This was also their joint-worst ever World Cup defeat.

Miroslav Klose became the all-time World Cup record goal scorer with 16 goals in 23 matches.

Both Kroos and Schürrle managed to score a brace and found themselves on hat-tricks. Kroos scored the fastest brace in World Cup history, 69 seconds. If Kroos and Schürrle were lucky and scored hat-tricks, it could have been 9-1.

Özil could've had his name on the scoreboard but missed by a few centimetres.

David Luiz was poor as a defender and a leader. He wasn't able to lead his squad the way Thiago Silva can and failed to set up a solid back four.

The Germans were given the space to move forward and pass the ball forward and therefore were able to score 7 goals but conceded 1.

Marcelo and Maicon, both M's, had penalty appeals but the referee was not moved. The referee was also quite lenient when it came to challenges that the match only produced 1 yellow card.

It no longer matters who was there and who wasn't. Scolari fielded a team he thought or knew could challenge Germany, but they failed. The Germans were brilliant. Their only mistake was Neuer's clean sheet.

After the fourth goal Brazilian fans were seen leaving the stadium while others stayed behind crying. In the end, the devastated fans were booing, didn't want the Brazilian team to applaud them for their support. However, who's to blame? Scolari or the players?

The Shock & Horror

How do you leave a man like Müller unmarked? In the 11th minute, a delivery from Kroos, found an unmarked Müller who slotted in the first goal.

Marcelo and Maicon allowed Klose to get two shots at goal. He missed the first but scored the second. As a result, became the World Cup leading goal scorer.

Kroos was also unmarked at the edge of the penalty box and scored his first goal in 5 matches. Two minutes later he scored a brace as Marcelo and Fernandinho let the ball through.

Khedira also added his name to the scoresheet when he scored the fifth goal after an Özil assist.

Shock and disbelief took Brazil to halftime.

Scolari made two halftime changes, Hulk and Fernandinho for Ramires and Paulinho.

Early in the second half, Paulinho and Oscar created the best chances for Brazil, and they also had most of the possession. Oscar kept pressing for a goal but the German defence and Neuer kept the Brazilians at bay. However, when Schürrle came on for Germany, there was a shift in power once more.

The sixth goal came courtesy of Schürrle from a pass from the German captain Lahm. Then with 11 minutes left of play, Schürrle was on a hat-trick when he netted the seventh and final goal for Germany.

Oscar scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, Neuer was furious for conceding the goal.

The final whistle resulted in the Brazilians sinking to their knees, either crying or praying. Oscar could not be consoled as Thiago Silva tried to console him.

In the end, Germany booked their spot in the final which will take place on Sunday. Brazil will now face the loser of tonight's match between Argentina and the Netherlands. The winner of that encounter will face Germany in the final.

Netherlands take the last semi-final spot (FIFA WC 2014 QF)

In a nailbiting thriller between the Netherlands and Costa Rica, which even included penalties, the Netherlands prevailed 4-3 on penalties to take the last spot in the semi-finals.

The lowest ranked team in the World Cup finals, Costa Rica could have found themselves in the semi-finals. They even overshadowed Spain, the highest ranked team in this World Cup. Costa Rica could have also become the first CONCACAF team to make it to the semi-finals since 1930.

In the beginning there was not much action in the match. Both teams had a very slow start but Netherlands looked to be squeezing pass Costa Rica's defense.

The Netherlands had plenty offsides. If those resulted in goals, Costa Rica would have been distraught.

The slow paced match, without any goals scored in the first half, appeared to be the first team in the quarter-finals who might take the match to extra-time and maybe even penalties.

The drama came at the end of the match with a massive attack from the Netherlands. However, they couldn't find the back of the net.

At times the Netherlands defense would pass the ball between themselves, much to the aggravation of Costa Rica.

The busiest of the goalkeepers was Navas who managed to save shots from van Persie, Sneijder, Memphis and a few others. Sneijder even managed to hit the crossbar twice.

The Netherlands attack at goal brought the match to life. They looked to liven things up with two shots at goal, one from van Persie and the other from Sneijder. The closer the Netherlands got for a shot at goal, van Persie was caught offside.

Costa Rica also came alive during a free-kick and that was their best chance in the first half.

Goalkeeper Navas was called into action again after Robben was fouled, the referee gave the free-kick. Sneijder took a beautiful set piece which was saved by Navas.

In the second half Costa Rica attacked more than the Netherlands. They looked better than they did in the first half. Unfortunately for the Netherlands, their chances were disappointed by a constantly offside van Persie.

The introduction of Costa Rica's first substitute brought positive change for them. So Costa Rica's chances kept increasing.

Extra-time it was. Would it end in 30 minutes or would penalties be involved?

The Netherlands have never won a match that has gone to extra-time. They've been there 4 times and have lost on all 4 of those occasions.

Even in extra-time the Netherlands were behind the attack.

They Netherlands had the best chances in extra-time. However, they kept struggling with the offsides. Costa Rica on the other hand, received their first corner of the match. Then a late charge by Costa Rica shook the Netherlands defense.

In the end, it was the penalties that decided who took the last spot in the semi-finals.

Argentina through to semi-finals (FIFA WC 2014 QF)

Argentina became the third team to book their spot in the semi-finals with a single goal from Gonzalo Higuain.

Although Argentina were able to make it through to the semi-finals, they have been winning by 1-0. Which doesn't prove or show that they are in great form or even strong contenders for the World Cup.

Argentina deserved to win as most of the possession belonged to them. They created the best chances and defended well. The only way Belgium got the ball was through a foul or on the break.

However, in the second half it was the other way around. Belgium were getting all the attacks while Argentina were getting through on the breaks.

A ricochet off a Belgian landed at the feet of Higuain who then scored in the 8th minute and it was his first goal of the tournament. In the first two quarter-finals, the early goals lasted the longest, they won the matches and that was seen yesterday with Germany and Brazil.

With Argentina leading, Belgium scored most of their goals after the 70th minute. Which was seen during the group stages and last 16 match. This time Belgium were looking to score before the 70th minute. Every chance they got, they attacked the goal.

Unfortunately an injury kept di María from playing through to halftime. He appeared to have hurt himself while taking a shot at goal. Eventually he was substituted. His extraction was to ensure his fitness for the next match if Argentina made it through to the semi-finals.

The best chance for Belgium to equalise before the break came from Mirallas who couldn't twist his neck well enough to control the ball with his head in order to head it into the goal.

Higuain was close to getting a second goal after beating the goalkeeper but the only thing that stood in his way was the crossbar. In case you missed it, the Argentinian coach was about to fall backwards into the dugout but quickly regained his balance. He just couldn't believe his eyes. That Higuain shot made him dizzy.

In the closing stages, each team wanted to score. Belgium were looking for the equaliser while Argentina wanted another goal to cement their spot in the semi-finals. If Belgium scored, the goal would ignite a greater battle between the two sides.

Added time of 5 minutes produced the best performances of the match. Each side was attacking and it was beautiful football. Sadly someone has to lose and that was Belgium.

The Belgian journey in the World Cup came to an end as they lost 1-0 to Argentina.
